- 2024 International Residential Code (IRC)
- 2024 International Fire Code (IFC)
- 2024 International Plumbing Code (IPC)
- 2024 International Mechanical Code (IMC)
- 2024 International Existing Building Code (IEBC)
- 2023 National Electrical Code (NEC)

The International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) has been adopted for reference purposes only and is not enforced as a mandatory requirement.
Building Permits
Building permits are issued by the Codes Administration Division of the City Development Department. For permit information, contact the Codes Support Representative at 816-220-4565. To request a building inspection, call 816-228-0104. You can submit a permit or application through the Permit & Application Center.
Roof Replacement Requirements
The City will continue its current policy of requiring a permit only when structural roof decking is being replaced. However, under the updated code, repairs affecting more than 10 percent of the total roof area within any three-year period must be treated as a complete roof covering replacement. Repairs affecting 10 percent or less of the total roof area within a three-year period may use materials comparable to the existing roofing materials.
Scheduling Inspections
Inspection requests must be made by 3 p.m. the day before the requested inspection date. Requests received after 3 p.m. may be scheduled for the next available business day based on inspector availability. Same-day inspections will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis for life-safety concerns. If work is not ready when the inspector arrives, the inspection may be recorded as failed, a reinspection fee may apply, and the project may be delayed.
