Did you know that you are required to have a backflow device on your irrigation system? The City of Blue Springs requires a backflow device on all irrigation systems.

Backflow

Did you know that if you don’t have a backflow device on your irrigation system, you could be at risk for backflow water contamination?

The City of Blue Springs requires annual testing of all residential and commercial backflow assemblies, as stated in the City of Blue Springs Municipal Code (Chapter 710) as well as the Missouri Secretary of State: Code of State Regulations. Testing of the device(s) must be performed by a certified backflow tester, and results must be submitted online to Aqua Backflow by the test due date.

How Inspections Work

To make sure backflow prevention devices are maintained, Aqua Backflow, Inc., a company specializing in managing these systems, oversees inspections. Test reports must now be submitted on our TrackMyBackflow.com website. Here’s what you can expect:

About a month before your inspection is due, Aqua Backflow will mail a notice informing you of the upcoming requirement to have your backflow device inspected.
If Aqua Backflow hasn’t received your inspection report by the due date, they will send a second reminder roughly two weeks later.
If the report is still missing two months past the due date, Public Works will send a final notice (via phone or email) providing a one-week window to complete the inspection. For example, if the inspection is due in April, notices will go out in February, April, and finally at the end of May.
  • Residential: If your inspection report has not been submitted by a licensed inspector or inspection company by the final notice date, water service will be shut off approximately two months past the due date.
  • Commercial: Commercial properties will receive the same notices, and if an inspection report is not received, Public Works will conduct an in-person visit before considering a shutoff, as decided by the Public Works Director per state regulations.
